Justin Sampson

Justin Sampson, a world-famous Emcee, Auctioneer and Rugby Commentator, volunteered for the 2006 Sports Extravaganza Celebrity Dinner gala fundraising event. We are pleased to announce that he is back to serve as the MC for our Shine On! Rugby World Cup Charity Dinner & Auction to be held on July 1st, 2011.

Justin Sampson has been with ESPN Star Sports for 11 years as a rugby presenter/commentator, mainly the 6 Nations, Tri Nations, Rugby World Cup and the “Rugby Show”.

He has also been National Coach of Singapore 1996-2002, was also the Assistant Coach/Technical Adviser for Indonesian National Rugby team.

He set up his own business in November 2006, Sampson Marketing Services, a sponsorship consultancy, event management and corporate hospitality company. This also allows him time to concentrate on being a professional emcee, motivational speaking & training, and auctioneer at various functions throughout the region, Middle East and Australia, and continue his TV and radio commentating duties.

Recently, he has been the Assistant Coach/Technical Adviser for Indonesian National Rugby team 2007-2009.
Prior to joining ESPN STAR Sports, Sampson worked with the Singapore Rugby Union for over five years as National Coach from 1996-2000, after a successful 3 years as player/coach for Kubota Corporation in Tokyo, Japan, in 1993-96.

His first association with ESPN STAR Sports was during the Rugby World Cup when he appeared as an expert commentator in 1999. This has continued through the Six Nations, Tri-Nations and RWC tournaments ESPN STAR Sports ever since.

Sampson has also commentated in the IRB 7’s series in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, as well as other rugby events in the region since 1997. In addition, he has written articles for the New Paper in Singapore, and on espnstar.com website.

Sampson has played provincial representative rugby for Country Origin, North Harbor in Sydney, in 1991-92, as well NSW Country, where he played the All Blacks 1988 and British Lions 1989. He was also captain of his 1st Division club in Sydney, Northern Suburbs for three years, 1990-93. He was a runner up in the Sydney Morning Herald Best and Fairest Award in 1990 as well as in the Rothmans Medal in 1991.

He grew up on a 94,000 acre outback sheep and cattle station at Cobar, in the middle of the outback in western New South Wales in Australia, a far cry from where he is now.

Sampson has become a prominent speaker, master of ceremonies and celebrity auctioneer, at a variety of functions which include corporate events, fund raising, conferences and seminars within the Asian region. Teamwork, the similarities between coaching a sporting team professionally, business management and leadership, motivational talks/presentations, and sales training, are what he enjoys the most.

Recently, he was a commentator for World Sport Group Asia on the SCC 7’s in Singapore, as well as the Darwin 7’s, NT Australia, for ABC TV and the Australian Network in Asia. Also, now hosting the hospitality for the new Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby team at home games.
