In Japan, there is a lack of qualified nurse specialists and nurses with long-term experience to step into leadership positions of pediatric wards. The Tyler Foundation (as it was known then) created a program to offer annual annual scholarships to top nurses who were studying in a Certified Nurse Specialist course with the goal of providing better medical care for pediatric oncology patients. Japan Pediatric Leukemia Study Group Support Program

Counseling and Support

Maximizes quality of life for pediatric oncology patients and their families throughout the entire cancer treatment process by placing clinical psychologists in pediatric cancer wards to provide:

  • Bedside counseling for parents and children – Shine On! Kids clinical psychologist made daily bedside rounds.
  • Group therapy for families – Shine On! Kids held regular group educational talks and tea parties for families. Parents could meet other families and exchange information or just enjoy some relaxation time with others.

(2007 – 2013)
