Justin Sampson will be our MC and auctioneer for the 2006 Sports Extravaganza Celebrity Dinner, our gala fundraising event to be held on September 29, 2006.

Justin Sampson is Director, Advertising Sales (South-east Asia) for ESPN STAR Sports for almost 7 years now. Responsible for Australia, Malaysia and Middle East based clients and regional clients based in Singapore, Sampson is constantly advising clients and agencies on on-air sponsorship and on-ground events.

Prior to joining ESPN STAR Sports, Sampson worked with the Singapore Rugby Union for over five years as National Coach, as well as assisted in its fund raising and sponsorship programs. His first association with ESPN STAR Sports was during the Rugby World Cup when he appeared as an expert commentator in 1999. This has continued through the Six Nations, Tri-Nations and now the new weekly “Rugby Show” on STAR Sports ever since.

Sampson has also commentated in the IRB 7’s series in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia over the last four years, as well as other rugby events in the region since 1997. In addition, he has written for several newspapers and is currently writing articles on espnstar.com website and a local monthly magazine.

Sampson has almost 12 years experience working and living in Asia including three years in Tokyo with The Kubota Corporation as a professional rugby player/coach. He continues to study Japanese. During his tenure in Japan, he worked in Export Sales Steel Division developing strategies, advertising and customer relations. Before leaving for Japan, Sampson spent more than two years with Yellow Pages.

Sampson has played provincial representative rugby for NSW Country, where he played the All Blacks 1988, British Lions 1989 and in Sydney, Country Origin, North Harbour, and was captain of his 1st Division club, Northern Suburbs for three years, 1990-93. He was a runner up in the Sydney Morning Herald Best and Fairest Award in 1990 as well as in the Rothmans Medal in 1991.

He grew up on a 94,000 acre outback sheep station at Cobar, in the middle of the outback in western New South Wales in Australia, which his mother still runs. A far cry from where he is now. Boarding school in Sydney was his introduction to sport.

Sampson has become a prominent speaker, master of ceremonies and celebrity auctioneer at a variety of functions which include corporate events, fund raising, conferences and seminars within the region. Teamwork, the similarities between coaching a sporting team professionally and business management and leadership, motivational talks/presentations and sales training are what he enjoys the most.

Sampson currently lives in Singapore and is married with two girls.
